How to use dill magick in Witchcraft - Part one

Dill is an extremely versatile plant that can be used for magickal workings in all its forms, seed, dried, fresh, and as an oil. Dill seeds can be used to attract love and abundance, placed in shoes for luck and success during important moments of your life. Dried dill and fresh dill can be used for protection, to remove jealousy, to attract money, aid the ability to be adaptable, in binding magick and to break hexes. You can also use dill oil to restore mental balance when you feel overwhelmed and to sharpen concentration. Dill is often overlooked but can be a powerful addition to your witchcraft staples.

The magickal origins of Dill

Dill (Anethum graveolens) has strong roots in witchcraft. The name dill originates from the Norse word ‘Dilla’ which means to lull or soothe. In Germany and Belgium, brides often add dill into their bouquets in the belief that it will bring them a good marriage. Indeed, dill is often used in love magick as the plant signifies lust and goodwill as well as encouraging fertility.

There has even been mention of the magick of dill seeds in medieval Grimoires.  The seeds were also burned and used as incense to protect against sorcery in the Middle Ages.

How to use Dill in Witchcraft

Love potion recipe

Dill is a powerful herb for love, romance, and lust spells. Dill seeds are especially important for love potions. Love potions are potent forms of Witchcraft and should be used extremely carefully. Give this love potion to the object of your affections.

For this spell you will need:

• Wine
• Dill seeds
• Method

Chose a wine that you and the object of your affection enjoy drinking. Steep this wine with the dill seeds. You can use as many seeds as you feel are needed. Then strain the wine and offer it to the desired one. When you pour out their glass make sure you speak aloud your desires over it.

Protection/guardian spell

Dill is a powerful protection herb and can be used as protection from nightmares and as protection for the home. Place dried dill in a pouch (we recommend an organza or jute bag) and put it inside or under your pillow for nightmare protection. If you are using dill to protect your home, then always place it at the doorway. The doorway of your home is one of the most vulnerable places for bad energy, or evil spirits, to enter. Placing dill over the threshold of your home will protect you against anyone (or spiritual being) who has hostile or envious feelings and will offer protection from the evil eye.

Hex Breaking magick

If you are unfortunate enough to have a hex put on you then dill is a very useful for breaking this hex as soon as possible.

To break the hex you will need:

• Sea Salt
• Dried/powdered dill

Blend together the salt and dill either using a pestle and mortar or magickal bowl. Scatter this mix around your home or any place you feel the hex strongly. Whilst scattering the mix say out loud the hex that you need lifted. You may also want to say a protection chant to reduce the risk of this happening again in the future.
