The bell has a long tradition in many religions, but in witchcraft has a variety of uses. It can be used in rituals to clear negative energy but is commonly used to call upon the spirit world for assistance. In some practices it is used to call spirits to each quarter, or compass point, when casting a circle. When used in hangings, such as in witches' bells, it becomes protective.
